Illness and Bereavement Support
At BRS we reach out and support members through every stage of life but especially when they are in need. Our Chaverim Team are available to support fellow members when they are ill, bringing in food, helping with attendance at hospital appointments or just visiting the ill and homebound. If you know of a member of BRS or you, yourself, are in need please call us. This way we can arrange a call or visit to provide timely support.  Please don’t assume that we know – we will only know if you tell us.

We will always be on hand to assist our members with funeral arrangements, shiva prayers and stone settings. Our dedicated and experienced Funeral Secretary is well equipped to advise bereaved relatives of their best options. We have a dedicated Chevra Kadisha team who carry out the ritual washing of the body prior to the funeral.

When a loved one dies, members are advised to contact the synagogue office on 01202 557736. If you are calling out of office hours, please use the Emergency Care Line stated on the Synagogue answer machine. This number operates 24 hours a day.

Remembering those that we have lost is a key part of our Jewish tradition. At BRS we seek to provide a compassionate and flexible yahrzeit service for our members. Yahrzeit information is stored on our electronic database and notifications are sent out to members in advance, detailing the day on which their relative's yahrzeit falls and the service in which their name will be read out.

The community is able to view upcoming yahrzeits in the 'Yahrzeits' tab above.
